Kelowna’s hottest event of the summer returns this July for its sixth year as Wakefest presented by Coors Light hits Waterfront Park July 6-8. Fans are reminded to get their tickets early this year to avoid the disappointment many encountered last summer when the event was sold out early Saturday afternoon.
The event’s popular music lineup this year will include JUNO Award winning Bedouin Soundclash and homegrown favourites Hedley on stage Friday and Saturday nights, while the sunny afternoons are filled with all things summer including thrilling pro wakeboarding action and the always popular Reef Bikini Contest.
This premiere Action Sports event, which annually draws more than 30,000 fans to Kelowna’s Waterfront Park, will showcase some of the most exciting athletes in the sport of professional wakeboarding, including Canadians Chad Sharpe and Rusty Malinoski, tour stars Shane Bonifay and Darin Shapiro, one of the most popular athletes in the sport’s history. Wakefest presented by Coors Light is part of the Coors Light Trauma Series, Coors Light’s national Action Sports tour, and also includes events in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec and Ontario.
Tickets for Wakefest go on sale this Saturday, May 19 and can be purchased by calling 1-866-891-WAKE or by visiting www.wakefest.ca. Tickets are priced at $60 for a full weekend pass or single day passes are also available.
“The start of summer always has people looking forward to July and Wakefest in Kelowna,” said Mark Taylor of IMG Canada. “Last year’s event set a record for attendance, and we want to encourage everyone to plan and ahead and get their tickets early so that they’re not disappointed when it is sold out.”
On the water, the Pro Wakeboard Tour features an exciting competition format called the ‘KING OF WAKE Wakeboard World Cup’, as the riders will race all season long to become the world’s number one wakeboarder and collect a $10,000 bonus that accompanies the honour. Wakefest is one of ten stops, and the only one in Canada, on the Pro Wakeboard Tour that allows riders to score points for the ‘KING OF WAKE’ title.
