Surfing Vancouver Island

wetsuit design survey and design project

Cold Water Defence is inspired by the harsh conditions of "Mother Nature". The intent of the project is to develop a wetsuit that combats the effects of cold water on surfers, and to increase the performance of wetsuits for athletes in extreme conditions: focussing on durability, flexibility, and warmth.

This design project is a Graduation Thesis for the Industrial Design program at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Desig (www.eciad.bc.ca). ECIAD allows each student to take an independent design challenge and examine design solutions from research and conceptualisation, through manufacturing, marketing and user trials. O'neill in Santa Cruz, took on the role as an Exterior Industry Advisor, assisting in the design process and the production a final prototype for the thesis. Coastalbc.com provided over 300 hundred results during a user survey revealing the trends of the northwest surfing population from California to BC, to New Brunswik.

My design approach has been inspired by a passion for the outdoors and an active participation in sports. My goals are simple: to create technical designs inspired by function and performance. I believe that design is a fine balance between play and work -- A balance that allows a designer to bring authentic energy into the products they are creating. I hope to find myself in the sports design community, and to continue my quest for world travel and passport stamps

» change_design: entry and exit entry and exit
» change_design: there should be a better pocket for holding keys/money/etc...
» change_design: a interior liner to make getting in and out easier when wet (built-in rash guard?). Also micro adjustments on suit to fit different body types. Sometimes it gets pretty uncomfortable when a vacuum is created between your body and the suit maybe a small push button valve to let some air in?)
» change_design: A number of my female friends and I have noticed that even the "women specific" suits seem to be for girls built like 12 year old boys. I always have a cold spot (from flushing) on my lower back as my suit had to be a little bigger (size 8 vs 6) to accomodate my "womanly" hips and boobs.
» change_design: a) Nothing... b) New rubbers should be developed with various degrees of flexibility and insulation... This equates to more choice for the customer...
» change_design: add extra material under the armpits to give it even more of natural swim stroke. use a jersey internal liner that promoted more shearing within the suit.
» change_design: all should have key pockets!
» change_design: assholes to shit well surfing
» change_design: be WARMER! make the neck nigher and maybe have gloves built in and booties built in to the wet suit
» change_design: -better drainage systems so when water does go in it can get out quicker
» change_design: better seal on the entry area
» change_design: Better seam glue Lack of pannels
» change_design: better seams. all exterior seam to be stiched w/ none of them "molded together" (they always separate if they are not stiched. nothing, except a little more time spent making sure each seam is well stiched.
» change_design: Bring back those wild neon colours from the 80's. Maybe in moderation like a band on shoulders or lower legs and just bright primary colours. Some kind of kit included with new wetsuit to allow wearer to make personalized labels.
» change_design: Built in heater system.
» change_design: comfort
» change_design: Continue to push the materials envelope to reduce weight while increasing warmth. Improve the access to the key pouch! You have to exit the suit to get to it in my Rip Curl Elasto. I just put my key in my bootie. I think putting a pouch there would be much more practical.

» change_design: Fewer seams and more durable sesam tape,
» change_design: find some better closing system that velcro
» change_design: fit I can find a suit that fits me good
» change_design: flex flex
» change_design: flex vs.warmth is a problem. the velcro"new" suits suck for durrability.Too many parts too many bells and whistles probably as a result of marketers rather than actual surfers.
» change_design: Flex. Mostly so i dont get as tired. Wetsuits for girls. Maybe padded hips.
» change_design: flexability/durability, durability
» change_design: Flexibility in the shoulders and arms. Given surfing requires a great deal of paddling these muscles become well developed. Wetsuit builders however seem to think all surfers are skinny .
» change_design: Flexibility Knees not tough enough and need to be more stretchy
» change_design: flexiblity
» change_design: Flush on ankles and wrists, Mobility around shoulders
» change_design: Flushing, wind proofing

» change_design: high wear places protection
» change_design: Hood from falling off when getting pounded by a wave.
» change_design: I am generally happy with my suit.
» change_design: I am not a fan of the zipperless wetsuits durability -- they are 1 season disposable suits.
» change_design: i dont know
» change_design: I don't know the durability of it but the screen printed slick skin seems to reduce water absorption and block wind. I have a 4/3 that has held up well. This might be a good winter addition
» change_design: i dont think i would change any thing maybe make a super thick warm suit but also super stretchy
» change_design: i dont think i would change any thing maybe make a super thick warm suit but also super stretchy
» change_design: I have many sugestions. A place to piss out of. reduce seam locations by using laminates. Colors.
» change_design: I like the stretch of the new Excell. My next suit will probably an Excell. I'm happy with my Whites now that I wear a Radiator rasher inside out on the outside of the suit(I have a thermal O'neal rasher on the inside). The Radiator stops the water from coming in through the zipper. My main complaint with the Whites.
» change_design: I really like the stretch, that was a great improvement. I also like the no zipper entrance and exit. I think I am over all very happy with the wetsuits on the market today
» change_design: I think that arm movement could be worked on a bit more to give you more mobility in the shoulders and arms with less resistance
» change_design: i would change that more wetsuits use tittunium technolgy to make wetsuits more warmer like xcel does
» change_design: I would change the style so women have better fitting styles and color so they can look like a women. Also flexability in the arm area for paddling out.
» change_design: i would make it so it wouldnt be so f$#king cold> no wetsuit
» change_design: I would put a collar/neck band whatever on mine, and add a extra layer in the front and back to prevent small flushes, like the raptor does.
» change_design: I would put in a liner that made it easier to get in and out of.
» change_design: I would put together the fles or a excel with the strenght of seams of the hotline, the warrenty of the hotline and the price of a BARE.
» change_design: I'd like a kinda zipper/velcro release on the wrists/ankles to get out my suit easierwhen it's frrezin clod in the car park in mid winter.
» change_design: I'd reduce the wear in the back of the knees (compression area). Reduce tehability of velcro closures from sticking all over the suit when storing and cleaning the suit - casues pilling. Improved key pockets - more accesible this is hugely overlooked you have to put your car key somewhere. Good Luck on your project.
» change_design: improve seams. lacking a good system of attaching booties (especially) and gloves. often a problem for tall people.
» change_design: improve the seams, more flexible neoprene that doesn't effect durability
» change_design: INCREASE WARMTH WHILE DECREASING THICKNESS
» change_design: intergalactle vurtual penis holders
» change_design: internet capabilities
» change_design: It would be great if they would continue to be more flexible. (ie if a 4 MM could eventually be as warm as a 6mm is now)
» change_design: Keep them durable - kind of expensive to replace Also I really like the added flexibility that has been coming on the past few years It would be nice if suits were more abbrasion proof (barnacles) - especially booties Develop tape that never peels off Make them flexible around the shoulders knees and hips but tight at the ankles wrists and neck to avoid flush Better rash proofing
» change_design: Knee pads tend to wear quickly duck diving. shark deterant
» change_design: leaking zippers
» change_design: less cutting
» change_design: less seams.
» change_design: lighter and warmer comfort
» change_design: longer legs. the models they use for mens suits have short legs.
» change_design: Make a double seam on the neck to prevent or at least minimize the complete body flushing that occurs at the neck of a hoodless suit
» change_design: make it easier to get out of. The new flex material doesn't create tight seals at the wrist and ankles. I augment the ankles with the lease strap and a fin strap on the other ankle.
» change_design: make it easier to squirt without gearing down
» change_design: make it easier to take on and off without a buddy. My rear zipper always gets stuck in the inner membrane. No warm suits available for children.
» change_design: make the hoods more flexible some how wetsutis are lacking tie downs for rash gaurds. On big wipe outs is rolls up and shifts around
» change_design: Make the inside surface more of a glide so that when you are putting your feet in and you can more or less slide in rather than tugging from the waist all the time. Make the stitiching more anatomical so that it follows the motion as the shoulder rotates through the paddle. Sorry my kines background.
» change_design: make the sleaves and legs less prone to tearing
» change_design: make them thiner/lighter but maintain the warmth. They also need to become more durable so they last more then 1 season. Mainly they need to refine the neopreen they are using or find a new material that can do the job better.
» change_design: Making the damn thing really easy to get off when I'm frozen and totally beat after a three hour session.
» change_design: Minimize the seams. I know they're already getting on this but it can't come fast enough. Especially around the crotch/waist. ARGH! I hate it when water flushes through there. Lacking? I don't know. Those neon suits from the 80's were so bad but I miss them. Bring Back the NEON!
» change_design: more comfortable neck collar and somehow make it easier to get feet in and out.
» change_design: more felxability and warmth....
» change_design: more felxability and warmth....
» change_design: more flexablility, hood tan, good sealling gloves
» change_design: more flexible in the armpit area. and since i like zip up ankles, maybe velcro to keep the zippers down. i think wetsuits are as good as they can be for the current time unless your willing to pay $1000 for a swiss army knife of wet suits with al the gadgets
» change_design: more sexy
» change_design: Most women's suits (except the O'Neill) have a huge chest size! (we're not all double D's). I would add insertable thin pads for hip bones (girls just learning get wicked bruising on their front hip bones- I remember I did!) Bigger visors on hoods to keep the rays out of your eyes. (but they have to look cool)
» change_design: need longer wear and tear.
» change_design: need wax pocket
» change_design: need wax pocket, need improved durability, invent something new.
» change_design: no ideas.
» change_design: no velcro durability. I hate spending 500 + for a suit that lasts a season barely depending on use. I am considering going to a more traditional suit to get back the durability factor but the sacrifice seems to be flexibility
» change_design: no zipper, and less seams, too many seams
» change_design: non-chaffing materials in joints of suit and maybe a padded chest area. possibly a pocket to hold my keys in.
» change_design: none
» change_design: none, cost less?!!?
» change_design: not sure. i wish i had some sort of hood i guess since i am a washington/BC surfer. i can always wear and optional hood i guess. the zipper sounds cool but i would have to see it first...
» change_design: nothing on my new one (rip curl super elasto) most of the others never fit tight enough though and end up causing some really bad chaffing
» change_design: on velcro suits.....every suit with velcro has a problem with destroying the neopren around it. why dont they use a finished neopren (like on a tri wet suit) in the area of the velcro.
» change_design: Personal waste disposal systems :)
» change_design: price
» change_design: price
» change_design: rashes behind the knee.
» change_design: removeable hoods booties that attach to ankles
» change_design: ripping behind and on knee caps.. ware suit is joined with rubber knee pads.. durability
» change_design: Screw the flex material in non-essential areas. I don't need flexible neoprene on my ass, shins, forearms, etc. That's where the warmer, less flexible stuff should be used. Stop ankle flush (besides a velcro strap)! Something to address the problem of icing up on threads and drawstrings. color! I guess black is warmest, but it's getting a bit boring out there in the line-up.
» change_design: seal tape and durability, warmth
» change_design: seams
» change_design: Seams, I would like to see less seams that for me tear or damage and cause cold water to flush in
» change_design: seams. Lets get rid of them. not much.
» change_design: seemless wetsuit
» change_design: Seems that stay watertite for longer than 6 sessions. puting decent knee pads on pricey suits, less emphasis on supa stretch legs, rather have better quality else where and remeber the key pocket.
» change_design: Shark repellant, Green Hornet suit, hideaway cape. Liquor pouch.
» change_design: smell, stash pockets
» change_design: SOME HAVE TO MUCH FLUSH IT WOULD BE NICER IF THE WATER WOULD STAY IN A LITTLE MORE.
» change_design: some sort of tug- tag on the ripcurl elasto so I can take off the arm/hood overlapping section easily by myself. very durable seams, bust-proof seams, most suits are too bulky behind the knees, I'd really really like an elasto suit tailored for a womans breasts so I dont get cold water flushing between the big gap between them
» change_design: some way to hold your sleaves down so they don't get pushed up on your arm. Perhaps a "stirrup" that you pull over your thumb to keep the sleave down and possibly prevent some flush
» change_design: some way to seal the boot and the suit together longevity
» change_design: take off the lame logos crafstmenship
» change_design: that the stitching would be better theyre are strechy but still not enough wetsuits suck id like if a 5mm could feel like a 3/2 thatd be the day
» change_design: the colour and pattern
» change_design: the materials for more flex and more warmth but the two usually cancel each other out. pretty happy with what hotline has to offer. can't beat the warmth and they are pretty flexi and you get what you pay for. made in n.a. and they stand behind their products with a tits warranty. i would recomend their products. but they tend to run a bit large so ordering a size smaller is a good idea.
» change_design: The mobility in the arms when paddling.
» change_design: the neck grt in grt out speed
» change_design: the neck needs to be more flexable and zipper leash needs to be longer
» change_design: The neck. I hate chaffing.
» change_design: The Price!
» change_design: the smoothie, get rid of it, it seems to wear out really quick, companies don't stitch the smoothie unless it's a 3/2
» change_design: The stitching. Durability coupled with flexibility.
» change_design: the tight ness all wetsuits should be tight to keep cold water flush out
» change_design: the velcro rips up the steamer material, I don't know
» change_design: The wetsuit I just purchased is a zipperless, but at times it is so hard to get off. Maybe have a small zipper that goes down one sholder of the fold to help get one half of the suit off. Also once again the suit I have dose not hug my waistline or the small of my back becuase it is not a women's cut, this allows more area for water to sit.
» change_design: They lack durability, maybe you should try and develop a lamination tech for taping the seams - they always go first or develop better glue.
» change_design: thickness of material flexibility neoprene is great but as it gets thicker it becomes less flexible
» change_design: too much flush in the neck easier entry and exit(if possible) zippers at the ankles.
» change_design: um the hoods there really ugly but hey they work, not all the wet suits have fit some times the wet is good for your hight but not your width
» change_design: unsure, Flat lock seams
» change_design: velcro wear on zipperless wetsuits
» change_design: warmer and more flexable if possible
» change_design: warmth and durability
» change_design: well since my brand new O'neil Epic dezippered itself I would take a close look at zipper designs. I don't know. The new suits are really nice. They've come a long way.
» change_design: What about getting rid of seams altogether? One piece construction. Molded. Is it possible? As far as features wetsuit design seems fairly mature. What about a pocket somewhere on the back for a camera or small bottle of whiskey? (plastic bottles encouraged for safety.) P.S. My entry system isn't exactly "velcro zipperless." More like "zippered zipperless." Step in through neck hole pull hood flap over head zip hood flap (horizontally) onto chest. Note: the zipper is totally external to the suit. Merely a way to hold the hood flap down.
» change_design: Zipper, Durability
» change_design: Zippers in the ankles.
» change_design: zippers just have to go. I think it all comes down to the tech of the material for toughness and flexibility. My suit rocks. I have no issues.
»
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves have to come above the wrist so the suit can roll down over it. same with boots and the ankles. boots have to have some rubber on the soles and over the toes...if the toes don't have rubber the boots wear out fast. I hate boots that wear out fast.
» concerns_g_b_h: 1) dexterity 2) warmth 3) durability
» concerns_g_b_h: all of my booties have come apart in the seams. gloves not warm/thick enough hood are too tight and hurt and just super annoying-cant hear

» concerns_g_b_h: booties
» concerns_g_b_h: booties - durability and some flexibility Gloves have cutoff my circulation in the past and still let water in-Resulting in cold, numb hands. Hoods come off and there is more flush down your back when duck diving with a detached hood.
» concerns_g_b_h: booties - seal well around ankle and durable. gloves - grippy and good for paddling and good sealing. hoods - atatched to wet suit with different matterial thinner over ears
» concerns_g_b_h: booties and glove
» concerns_g_b_h: booties and gloves are really thick and you lose the feel for your board
» concerns_g_b_h: Booties are important to me becaue I get cold feet all the time. I need a good thick booty with good rubber soles. The soles are important beacause I do a lot of surfing over rocky bottoms.
» concerns_g_b_h: booties coming out from legs - letting in water
» concerns_g_b_h: Booties must be made of light material but still rugged enough to walk across barnicle covered rocks and woody trails without much discomfort. Also I am tired of replacing my booties after only half a season due to wear and tear from rocks and barnicles, especially on the arch where the rubber turns into neoprene. This part need somthing stronger over it. Gloves are doing well, I still think they should last a little longer than they do. The insides are all torn up, and the outside of my gloves are tearing on the seams.
» concerns_g_b_h: booties must be securely on and not let in too much water, they must have a good grip on the bottom, must be snug so they dont take away from the feeling capabilities of the foot
» concerns_g_b_h: booties sometimes fill up with to much water. Some gloves are bulky and create drag while paddeling. A hood is nice to have in the winter.
» concerns_g_b_h: booties that still give you great feel on the board but also keep you warm Don't wear hood
» concerns_g_b_h: Booties under the fins not stretch out and fit secure not loose
» concerns_g_b_h: booties wearing holes near the soles
» concerns_g_b_h: booties with zippers suck gloves just suck and hoods suck too but its too damned cold in canada and i hate brain freezes
» concerns_g_b_h: booties: difficult to dry so they get smelly, bad seals around ankles, heavy and too much grip on the board. gloves - heavy when waterlogged hoods- bad seals that lead to flushing, too hot, too cold, difficult to hear, impares balance.
» concerns_g_b_h: booting get to bloated sometimes. i wish they would stay smaller and lighter.
» concerns_g_b_h: Boots and gloves warmth and flex, Hood lightness
» concerns_g_b_h: Boots get STINKY! Helps to be able to turn them inside out. Gloves can mess up your paddling. I like 1mil gloves for the "real" feal. I like my hood. It's built into my suit and it's a little loose. Consequently I can push it back (and put it on again) without great ardor.
» concerns_g_b_h: boots give less feel. gloves get heavy
» concerns_g_b_h: boots reduce my ability to feel the board under me gloves lessen my grip on my board when pushing out through the bigger sets hoods just bother me over all. Can't hear stuff. Can't turn your head as easy. I usually just pull mine own when paddling out or on really cold days.
» concerns_g_b_h: boots should bee a little longer so they are not so likley flush
» concerns_g_b_h: Botties: thickness for warmth and feel of board Gloves: thinnesse for better feel Hood: confort
» concerns_g_b_h: Brim on the hood rips easily. Fingers on gloves wear quickly.
» concerns_g_b_h: bulky
» concerns_g_b_h: Can't feel or hear stuff
» concerns_g_b_h: can't grip a bodyboard with gloves. can't wear gath with hood. want booties that don't get holes from walking.
» concerns_g_b_h: cold water comming in
» concerns_g_b_h: Comfort
» concerns_g_b_h: contact with the board, hearing
» concerns_g_b_h: Do not last long. Price@ The bottoms of the new boots on the market are made with the new ultra squishy and flexable material and they get flat soon from just walking in them. This greatly reduces the insulating quality. The boots are cold long before they are worn out.
» concerns_g_b_h: dont have any, but im sure their prety annoying, i dont even really like wearing wetsuits, but i do to keep warn in winter

» concerns_g_b_h: getting them on and off
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves - balancing warmth with ability to feel the board and move the hands. Boots - warmth. Hoods - fit.
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves - bulkiness and lack of feeling the water. Boots - entry/exit Hoods - tightness around the upper neck and covering the chin wish they made them without covering the chin.
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves - Heavyness in water and added difficulty paddling , Booties - Foot roll, Hoods - Turning difficulty
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves - need tight fit in palm area. They tend to fill with water and get cold and heavy. Booties - I have a cheap pair of "Hang 10" booties and the zippers fall down in the water. I need to spend some money to buy a decent pair. Hoods - I need full coverage preferably integrated into a vest or rashguard.
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves - need to fit real well to avoid weight of excess water Booties - warmth and durablity (Hotline 7mm) Hoods - Need neck protection too should be able to work w/ a gath helmet
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves - tear when removing
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves - Weight Booties - Thickness to keep you warm Hoods - Like visor and would like vent so youdon't get the suction on ears.
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves = How well they fit under the wrist seals...some are so bulky around the wrists that it's impossible to make a nice tight seal. Booties = How fast they wear out. I go through AT LEAST one pair of booties a season. It's frustrating to have a $50 pair of boots ruin the warmth of a $500 wetsuit. Hoods = Fit. I have a large head and it's tough to get a nice warm fit in my size.

» concerns_g_b_h: gloves are too heavy to padde with sometimes - I get tired. Hoods give me a rash around my neck if I have them down.
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves can be hard to get to fit well if you have a good fitting suit, if you tuck it under your suit it is to tight but if left on top alot of water enters and exits. Boots can tend to make the zippers in your ankles roll up if the zippers arnt tapped or held down somehow. Hoods can be uncomfortable at times and do nothing to keep the face warm. your face gives you the most brain freeze.
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves- drag in the water when I am getting up, Booties- the fit, Hoods- how restricted it is
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves hurt me booties are fruity hoods al lovly
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves just suck. No gloves keep my completely warm. Booties are good, but they tend to get holes quicky. Attached Hoods are fine because they protect water leackage from the neck.
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves make paddling difficult/fatigue, hoods reduce hearing/spooky, i wear booties and like them
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves make paddling difficult/fatigue, hoods reduce hearing/spooky, i wear booties and like them
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves must be light booties are hard to judge if they fit when you buy them hoodies can flush easy if they arn't designed properly
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves need to be durable and stretchy also, they seem to slow you down, but keep you warm. Booties tend to wear out quickly. Hoods are hard to hear out of.
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves need to be tight when put on dry. he less seams the better -boots should have thin souls .thick always crack quickly. -less seams are better too -Ive used hood/vest combos where the hoods need to have had sinchers on opening to tighten to keep water out -I like visors
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves need to fit well to not allow too much new water flow, yet do not cut off the circulation. Hoods, with a flipable peak. Booties, try some teflon soles with good responsive pading and toe protection for rocky shores. Same insulation as mentioned above for gloves.
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves should be thick or warm enough to withstand the cold but tight enough so that you don't feel like you have fins on your hands. I would easily go with less thickness to make them feel more like hands. I have tried the fin gloves and it just doesn't feel right.
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves suck all together, but my QS 5 mil gloves are good, they just need some grip on em. I hate the visors on hoods. A pull strap on hoods around the face is good. Booties are pretty good, o'neil and the new GUL boots are awesome.
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves that fill with water and make them heavy and hard to paddle. Booties that are too short so that there is no overlap between suit ankles and boots. What I would love to own is 3mm webbed gloves with a nice long cuff that would tuck under my suit wrists.
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves, too heavy hoods too tight booties if warm, too clunky, if flexible usually too cold
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves: circulation vs warmth booties: grip, durability and protection
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves: 1) lightness... i don't want to know I'm wearing any; 2) a snug, tight, though comfortable fit, to prevent water from loitering inside and adding weight to gloves; 3) durability. booties: warmth and fit... again, i don't like how the booties i've been using balloon up with water after a while. hoods: fit... don't want to feel like head is constrained.
» concerns_g_b_h: Gloves: fill up with water and make it tougher to paddle
» concerns_g_b_h: gloves-noleaks, grip material lasts, booties-warmth without pocket of water, feel through the sole, hoods- stay positioned and seal adjustment, to eliminate flush when desired
» concerns_g_b_h: Good fit and comfort. My booties are always too big or too small. Difficult to find flexible gloves that last more than a season.
» concerns_g_b_h: hoods are uncomfortable and constricting, i feel trapped. I have no problem with gloves. Boots dont fit properly and hold too much water
» concerns_g_b_h: hoods that sit to far back on your forehead, booties have to be warm and have really good grip that lasts and gloves just need to be flexible
» concerns_g_b_h: Hoods: Comfortable fit...ergonomically designed so you can turn your neck easily. and tight closure around the face. A drawstring that doesn't ice-up would be great! Booties: Warmth!!!Warmth!!!Warmth!!!! 7 mm and still gets cold after a couple hours! Gloves: Warmth, tight fitting and light.
» concerns_g_b_h: i dont have a problem with gloves and boobs but the head thing is really ugly
» concerns_g_b_h: i don't have any concerns, i have to wear booties all year round
» concerns_g_b_h: i hate booties that fill up with water and i am actually looking for a pair of mits with trigger fingers to surf in
» concerns_g_b_h: i still get damn cold hands and feet.
» concerns_g_b_h: I think booties should be completely sealed
» concerns_g_b_h: i want minimal bulk but still keep warm
» concerns_g_b_h: if they keep me warm or not
» concerns_g_b_h: I'm not a big fan of hoods alothough I have to wear one because of the "slurpee" headache you get duck diving. But I want them to be fairly tight but not too constrictive. Booties are all about the warmth they provide and gloves have to have grip!
» concerns_g_b_h: Leakiness. Must be no flush from seams at all. That means gloves and boots must be airtight no pinhole leaks.
» concerns_g_b_h: leekage
» concerns_g_b_h: loosing 'em
» concerns_g_b_h: losing em, that the gloves leak, get cut on the fins and are screwed. I can't hear well with my hood up and it makes my balance weird for a bit.
» concerns_g_b_h: losing them booties-thick soles
» concerns_g_b_h: loss of feel
» concerns_g_b_h: Make it too hard to pop up when surfing.
» concerns_g_b_h: MATING TO THE SUIT AND TACTILE FEEL
» concerns_g_b_h: Most surf designs fall apart quickly.
» concerns_g_b_h: must have them except for gloves, i like to feel my board as i get up.
» concerns_g_b_h: my fingers feel like sausages and you lose dexterity. boots are fine. flex with hoods is very important.
» concerns_g_b_h: need more adj. in forefoot of booties.
» concerns_g_b_h: never had them.
» concerns_g_b_h: no
» concerns_g_b_h: No concerns just warmth
» concerns_g_b_h: no concerns. as long as they fit right i dont have a problem.
» concerns_g_b_h: No flushing

» concerns_g_b_h: none
» concerns_g_b_h: none the all work great
» concerns_g_b_h: None, after first session with them on again, they are always a pain to start with. Boots that are snug and warm, but also not to tight. need a 6mm poly pro split toe boot on the market
» concerns_g_b_h: none.
» concerns_g_b_h: nothing
» concerns_g_b_h: nothing
» concerns_g_b_h: Poor contact sensitivity with the gloves and especially the booties. Poor neck flexibility with my hood.
» concerns_g_b_h: poor dexterity
» concerns_g_b_h: putting a hole in them
» concerns_g_b_h: quality seam with the hood because it is part of the suit. it is given that boot and gloves will have to be replaced every couple years
» concerns_g_b_h: right size
» concerns_g_b_h: ripping
» concerns_g_b_h: Ripping or tearing of seams/fabric...
» concerns_g_b_h: seams leak/fit to loose on thick ones
» concerns_g_b_h: seem coming apart
» concerns_g_b_h: Soles of booties wearing through. Gloves that to fit snugly are difficult to put on and off. Top of hood above forehead lets water in when duck diving.
» concerns_g_b_h: stink like piss
» concerns_g_b_h: suck to put on not durable change_design: that freaking velcro issue
» concerns_g_b_h: that I will over-heat in the summer
» concerns_g_b_h: that the boots fit snuggly and that they will not twist on my feet
» concerns_g_b_h: that the taping breaks on booties
» concerns_g_b_h: that they don't leak or in the case of gloves bogg you down and tire you out
» concerns_g_b_h: that they dont leak!
» concerns_g_b_h: that they dont leak!
» concerns_g_b_h: that they will wear out too fast
» concerns_g_b_h: the are not sexy
» concerns_g_b_h: The boots shouldnt be too clunky
» concerns_g_b_h: the boots wear out too quickly and sometimes hurt when walking on big rocks
» concerns_g_b_h: The gloves cost a lot and tend to rip easily also they make u feel like the michelin man - covered from head to toe.
» concerns_g_b_h: the smell
» concerns_g_b_h: they always get holes in them.
» concerns_g_b_h: they come untucked easily
» concerns_g_b_h: they let too much water in
» concerns_g_b_h: they look funny
» concerns_g_b_h: they need to be super warm I wear three finger gloves.
» concerns_g_b_h: they should seal properly and have no foot rub.
» concerns_g_b_h: they suck
» concerns_g_b_h: they suck, i hate wearing them. no grip for boots, hoods piss you off, and gloves are for pussies
» concerns_g_b_h: they ware out quickly
» concerns_g_b_h: thick enough for warmth, and comfort.
» concerns_g_b_h: To hard to get on gloves. Can't hear with hoods. Hoods pull at hair when putting on and taking off.
» concerns_g_b_h: uv damage
