The Thanksgiving Surf Classic was a tremendous success, held at Lawrencetown
Beach on Sunday October 13th in 4 to 6 foot beach break with over 40
athletes competing for the title. The remains of hurricane Kyle, which was
one of the longest named storms in history, generated the contestable swell
with warm water and sunshine that held the entire day.
With the help of media coverage from Breakfast Television, Global News, ATV
News, Q104 Radio, the Chronicle Herald Newspaper, and our own signage, the
contest was a tremendous success. Drawing an estimated 350 spectators at the
peck of the day. The boardwalk to the beach was lined with all our sponsors'
banners along with the registration tent, which displayed all the donated
prices. Our PA system allowed us to establish a strong presence on the
beach, which also enabled us to announce our appreciation to all our
sponsors throughout the competition.
The Canadian Surfing Association board members would like to take this
opportunity to thank the sponsors who helped make this event a success with
over $4000 in donated prices. As well, we would like to thank all the
volunteers who help make this event run smoothly. We have included the
results of the event and a series of photos that were taken throughout the
day that clearly show the true success of this event in the eyes of the
competitors. We look forward to everyone's support next year and we value any feed
back that will help us make next years event even better.
