JR Thanksgiving surf morning
Howdy CoastalBC community,
While digesting the wonderful Thanksgiving meal my brother's family prepared for us here in Victoria, I reflected on the usual morning of surf at JR. I wanted to share these pictures and thoughts as part of my giving thanks to our Vancouver Island surfing community.
I won't offer my any profound advice for anyone seeking nautical adventure as I am not experienced in such matters and may have made the same mistakes as these guys given the opportunity.
This accident reminded me that we are a tribe of water loving people. Fishermen, surfers (including sup, right?), kayakers, and other inhabitants of this land and sea are bound together, stewards of a precious resource. We have a responsibility to take care of this place we love and to care for those who share our bond with the sea. What I witnessed and was a part of this morning was a reminder of that. A special thanks to the leadership of the older surfer/sup'er who recognized early on that help was needed and galvanized action without being asked for help. In the end, nobody was injured and the environmental damage was minimized.
