Arlington, Mukilteo, Duvall and Kent Washington - Canada Day weekend skatetrip
In a search for real tiles and real coping I'd thought I'd head south on Canada Day weekend to grind some gnarly stuff as the weather is finally improving. The border line up didn't seem too bad till finally reaching the female border guard as she asked "What citizenship?" and I replied "We're all Canadian", then the next question, "What is the purpose of your visit?" and I replied, "BECAUSE I ENJOY THE 2 HOUR WAIT!"....... I must of had shit for brains that day and never again on a long weekend as I should of known better. However, I was one of those smart idiots that waited 2 hours at 7 in the morning unlike the dumb ones that waited 5 HOURS later on!
Hey, but once across, it was all good as I manage to hit 4 parks consisting of Arlington, Mukilteo, Duvall and Kent as the weather was perfect and the water downed beer was CHEAP!!
Been to Arlington several times before as it consist of a small street section, a small 16ft. capsule full pipe with big 10 or 11ft. terrain on the west side of the park and pool coping and a smaller bowl on the other side of the pipe. There is also a love seat and many with many lines to be had. It's just a short drive once you get across the border, that's if you get across at all.
Duvall is one sick park where the bowl is a pool like kidney which is extremely tight and fast. The shallow end is about 3ft. deep with about a 1.5 ft. of back breaking vert and the deep end is maybe 8 ft. and just as tight but the best part about this is the stairs and the exposed aggregate for pool coping which was gnarly as hell to grind! The Punk Rockers from China Creeps keep bragging about it so had to check it out for myself! And disappoint it did not as it is a must stop for pool and vert rippers! Address is 28540 NE Big Rock Rd. Duvall Washington 98019.
At Mukilteo a competition was happening so we could only skate the big bowl which is ok by me. Although the bowl was a little gimped, it was ok and rideable. No real tiles but they have cut grooves in the cement and painted it yellow to simulate the real stuff which was close but no cigar. The young locals are pretty rad as even the little guys are blasting big airs and pulling of gnarly grinds on the coping. The rest of the park looks like it has great flow at least the locals make it look that way.
Kent was the last stop as we are now running out of time. The full pipe there flows well and extremely fast. It was a must stop with a sticker session to break in the new pipe since I didn't get any up before. Crazy locals were skating as one dude rolled in outside of the full pipe and into one of the bowls and survived. It's a great place to spend for a few hours as they have 2 barbeques, picnic tables and some climbing activities for the kids to do.
Anyhow, in talking with some of the locals, there are many more parks to visit in the Pacific Northwest such as Carnation, Battle Ground and Lincoln City so stay tuned for more.
