Danny Way documentary, Waiting For Lightning Screening
Van. Apr 14, 2012
Vancouver, BC – April 3rd, 2012 DC announces the Canadian screening of the highly anticipated Danny Way documentary, Waiting For Lightning
From the producers of STEP INTO LIQUID, comes WAITING FOR LIGHTNING, the story of a young boy from a broken home in Vista, CA, whose passion for skateboarding would one day bring him and his creation, a ramp of prodigious and dangerous proportions, across many cultural and ideological boundaries to attempt the impossible: jump China's Great Wall on a skateboard. It's a film about how much abuse the body can sustain, how deep you have to dig to survive the betrayals of family, and how high and far dreams can fly.
Free screening limited seats available

Year #9 is a wrap. Weather was great albeit a touch windy. The 'Ode to Jamer' tribute was classy and appropriate.
The art deck silent-auction on site (with proceeds to go to skatepark programming) had a great kick start -decks to be displayed at Coastline for further bids.

BEST TRICK
Approximately $1000 was given out in small denominations to the best rippers of these obstacles:
Spine quarterpipe, OG park pyramid, Hubba-down, Hubba-Up and the Stealth Bomber Hip -as a nod to Jamer as it was a favorite obstacle of his.
Set at the base of Blackcomb Mountain this gnarly 1 mile race track drops 1000ft and offers up eight 180 degree hairpins. Imagine snow boardercross meets the Formula 1 of skateboards as 4 man heats ripped down the mountain.
Come check out the speed, crashes, passes as 128 International Racers battle it out for the CASH PODIUM .

New PD's Hot Shop on W 10th Grand Opening
July 30, 2011
Born from a need for pro-quality skateboards in 1976, PD's Hot Shop in Vancouver stands as Canada's oldest existing skateboard shop. The Skull Skates skateboard company was launched as a creative extension of the Hot Shop in 1978 and continues to earn support from enthusiasts worldwide as Canada's oldest skateboard brand.
For over 3 decades PD's Hot Shop and Skull Skates have set up tens of thousands of custom built skateboards, not to mention the occasional skimboard, bicycle, snowboard, hoody, sticker etc. serving generations of customers. More than half of those decades have been spent at the 4th ave, location in Kitsilano which is now slated for closure in January of 2012.
Hot Shop announces the opening of an all new shop at 3734 w. 10th ave near Alma st on Vancouver's west side [ closer to the beach ] in the former location of Sacred Heart Tattoo.
A Grand Opening event takes place Saturday July 30th from noon til 7pm with special performances by Skull Skates recording artists Sorcerers and The DJ Trike eco-mobile sound system.
The DJ Trike is a new format for creating sensory experiences and social interventions. Inspired by bicycle and tricycle cultures worldwide, The DJ Trike was materialized to become a vehicle and platform for urban communication and interaction, as well a method to transcend common perceptions associated with current pedal powered transportation.
Dub Punk Kings of East Van. Sorcerers recently re-united to perform at Vancouver's 125th Birthday Party show in Stanley Park...is the group back together? Sorcerers employ thunderous drum and base backing up maniacal vocal and guitar stylings tapping the flow found in parallel art forms such as skateboarding, skimboarding, cycling etc.

Two of Vancouver's favorite skateboard ladies have just returned from a 5 month volunteering mission at Skateistan's educational/skate facility in Kabul http://www.skateistan.org/

Castlegar ripper Josh Evin, has died at the age of 27. He was involved in a single vehicle motorcycle accident in Nelson.
Evin and a 37-year-old passenger were hurled into the fast-moving water early Sunday morning when Evin missed a sharp curve as he drove his newly-purchased motorcycle along the road hugging the canal.
He says the passenger, formerly from Nelson but now living in Vancouver, was lucky to scramble out of the treacherous water.
Evin was a sponsored, professional skateboarder who also owned the Black Russian skateboard shop in Castlegar.
Our condolences to the Evin family and friends.

Jul/05/2009 Don Hartley (aka Mad Carver) has passed away, after a collision on Canada day at Seylynn park, for the 'King of The Bowls'. Having competed with a helmet on all day, last run to the car park the accident happened. He was in coma, but was announced on Coastlongboarding by a friend of the victim and witness to the accident says that he passed away.
Don was one of Vancouver's most well known skaters having been a local at Seylynn and other Vancouver area parks for 30 Years.
So he was not just some anonymous local guy in some far off remote scene, he was an original skater prototype that through his actions and dediction to skating which eventually spread far from his roots, he paved the way for the rest of us skaters worldwide, once the rest of the world slowly caught on to the wisdom of building and maintaining public skateparks.

Not only will the winner be crowned the King, they will walk away with instant global exposure throughout the skate world, a piece of the $10,000 cash purse and a spot on DC’s newly formed DC Kings Team, DC’s latest skate squad based completely of DC King Of contest winners. They will also have a chance to receive a SHAZAM feature in Color Magazine, where they will be partnered with some of the best photographers and writers in the industry.
As part of the event DC will match the weekend’s prize purse with a $10,000 donation to the Vancouver Board of Park and Recreation for some much needed repairs and restorations of the Vancouver Skate Plaza. The cheque will be presented to a group of Vancouver Park Board Commissioners on Sunday, August 23, 2009, at 4:00PM at the Vancouver Plaza. "These funds will be used for much-needed improvements to the Vancouver Skate Plaza including the repair of the granite ledge and resurfacing of the brick bank," says Sarah Blyth, Vancouver Park Board Commissioner. "On behalf of the Vancouver Park Board I would like to thank DC for this generous donation."
"Since the Plaza opened it has been skated hard every day by so many people," says Trevn Sharp, Canadian Skate Team Manager. "We are excited to help the Vancouver Skate Plaza with some necessary maintenance. As a company within the skateboard community we need to make sure we are investing to keep our skateparks as pristine as the day they opened. This contribution will help with the restorations so skateboarders can enjoy the Plaza for years to come."

ROXY ANNOUNCES VANCOUVER DATE FOR TIFFANY CAMPBELL AND ANDRIA LESSLER’S DEAR AND YONDER
Groundbreaking Surf Film Features Daring Stories of Women United By The Sea
Vancouver, BC – (July 17, 2009) – Roxy is pleased to announce the Vancouver premiere for Dear and Yonder, the
groundbreaking feature film by noted surf filmmakers Tiffany Campbell and Andria Lessler for summer 2009.
Documenting the most progressive surfing of today, Dear and Yonder follows top professionals including Roxy team
riders Sally Fitzgibbons, Sofia Mulanovich and Kassia Meador, as they surf their home breaks (Dear) and travel the
world (Yonder). In addition to chronicling today’s surfers, Dear and Yonder spreads its roots deeper and cultivates a
sense of place and knowledge of history, reaching back in time to unearth footage of iconic surfers such as Linda
Benson, Rell Sunn and Lisa Andersen.
Shot by surf cinematographers Thomas Campbell, Sonny Miller, Scott Soens, Dave Homcy and Tiffany Campbell. the
film captures the authenticity of each surfer’s experience through imagery, music and art that reflect the vision of the
project. Filmmakers Tiffany Campbell and Andria Lessler tie these carefully crafted pieces together to tell a story that
demonstrates the inner spirit of the female surfer. Dear and Yonder pays homage to the most avant-garde female
surfers of the past forty years, some who have enjoyed the limelight and others that have only existed in quiet
pockets, but have pushed the boundaries and changed the face of the sport in their own way.

Vancouver, BC : February 5, 2009 – Quiksilver is excited to announce the addition of Jordan Hoffart to their Canadian skate team. Jordan had a very busy 2008, which included winning Quiksilver’s 80’s skate day contest and putting out seven interviews in top skateboard publications including The Skateboard Mag, SBC Skateboard, Concrete, Color and Titus Europe. Though contests and coverage were top of mind this past year his main focus has been on filming his break out video part in "FUN", the new Powell video set to release this April. His part includes footage from trips to Spain, Italy, Switzerland, France, Southern California, Arizona, Phoenix and of course Canada. The video release will move Jordan up to the pro category on the Powell Skateboards team.
The year has just begun but Jordan won’t be slowing down anytime soon. Coverage already confirmed for 2009 includes a 24-page article and cover of Hell Magazines debut issue, 20 questions in Transworld Skateboarding and an 8 page feature story in Kingsh*t Magazine. His first pro contest will be Tampa Pro in March. The Dew tour is back again this year and Jordan will be pushing to secure a spot on the 4 month televised tour. This spring will also see him on the Powell "FUN" tour, travelling around the US to screen the new video and skate with the kids.
"Quiksilver has given me a great opportunity and I am excited to be a part of the team, this is a great company for me to be with as I start my pro career." Jordan Hoffart.
"I’ve seen him push himself more in the last 3 years than some pro’s do in an entire career. He’s ready." Trevn Sharp Quiksilver team manager.
Be sure to check out his welcome video now at Push.ca. Look out for more Quiksilver Canada team news coming soon.

The ride takes us down a mellow trail that runs along the train tracks here in Nanaimo and it ends with a small bomb down to the skate bowl downtown. All abilities welcome! Hot dogs will be served up and the bowl will be shred to pieces! Please bring a helmet and plan on being courteous to the people of Nanaimo. Lets be stewards of our sport and show Nanaimo that our sport deserves respect! Aaron & I look forward to seeing you all there, if anyone from the mainland needs a ride from the ferry or a place to crash we can arrange it no problem.

Finally an original Canadian indie feature with skaters, not actors. It's a blend of skate sequences and some scripted reality about the lives of skaters Kris Foley, Chad Dickson, Dustin Montie, Alison Matasi, Mark Bajcar, Silas Borsos and Jarvis Nigelsky.
8 skateboarders in a run-down Vancouver Sk8 House known as “The Crashpad” set out to make “the ultimate skater video”. Their real lives, tricks and pranks play out on camera, capturing each skater as they learn that “the summer of your life” doesn’t come without a few lessons in humility.
Landing tricks, evading security guards and wild road trips fill their days, but it will all be for nothing if they can’t save the place they call home.

we don't need no stinkin tap water in Tofino to skate comp
Sat Sept 2, 2006
With all the talk about Tofino lately and most of it
involving the words severe and shortage, we have some
good news to talk about.
This Saturday, September
2nd, Raven Skate Shop will be hosting a skate comp in
the park. Many of the local businesses are sponsering
the event and the local skaters are stoked!
The town may be quieter than usual on this long
weekend and we will all be drinking bottled water, but
everyone will be talking about the skating! The kids
have been working hard all summer to improve their
skills and they are all excited to show you what
they've got!
Just a gentle reminder that most (if not all)
commercial lodging establishments (hotels and
campgrounds) will be closed. Also, most restaurants
will not be serving food. So if you are planning to
make your way across the island, bring plenty of food
and water and plan only to come for the day.
The comp starts at 11 am with the juniors. Registration starts at 10am. It should go to about 4pm give or take....
The competition should be a good one, we'll send photos and reports!!!
thanks
jayelle

good music, swag and more.
The over all goal of putting on this JAM is to give skaters a chance to be a part of something great.
Wild in the Parks was born when we noticed something needed to change in the amateur skateboard contest scene. We decided to take a different path, the road less traveled, and offer something new and entirely different. We came up with a new jam format that alleviates both stress and boredom at events.
Wild in the Parks is for young up and coming skaters to come out and show their skills. Think of the event like three best trick contests; skaters are judged on the tricks they pull in three separate park areas, never on their bails. Wild in the Parks is about giving back to the skaters. With this in mind, the series is entirely free. There are absolutely no entry fees, so anyone can enter. Show up early or register on the website to ensure a spot in the contest, because they fill up quick. It is a great environment to hang out, eat some free food, skate, cheer on friends, and go home with a ton of free prizes!

DC Shoes Summer 06 Road Trip [] not a demo tour
The DC Canadian Skate Team is hitting the road for 37 days to document a road trip that spans from Halifax, NS to Vancouver, BC. The cross country journey will unite the country coast to coast making stops in different communities along the way. Each stop will tap into the unique skateboard community and map the experience, people and places in a tour diary.
The discovery and exploration of Canada was accomplished by many people and many nations, over thousands of years. Their accounts convey both respect and fear of the natural environment. The daring journeys were filled with casualties from the cold, hunger and battle. As the DC Canadian Team embarks on their first cross country expedition, the stories of our countries first explorers humble the noble adventurers. Follow Paul Trep, Ryan Oughton, Arron Johnson, Chad Dickson, Sascha Daley, Swell, Sean Hayes and guests as they further uncover the great Canadian skate spots.
Check out www.dcshoescanada.com for up to date information, message board and live tour diary. Full video diary will be available Fall 2006 and distributed to finer skate shops and SBC subscribers.

The Vancouver Park Commissioners sat together in council, and read over a specially drafted Skateboard Strategy meant to guide key decisions for the next decade. Many people were involved in the creation of this said draft; including 608 skateboarders who filled-in questionnaires. The key component of the strategy is to assist with determining new locations for skateboard facilities in Vancouver and to ensure that they are properly implimented and structured... in essence a long-term plan/backbone for skateboarding in Vancouver supported by the Vancouver Skatepark Coalition.
The Vancouver Park Commissioners approved the strategy!
For a better draft breakdown, contact info, and how it may apply to you, check out: skateboard_strategy.pdf
Big props go to those involved in the creation/presentation of the draft:
